OmniPeek - multi capture capability

To assist in troubleshooting, you can open multiple real-time capture windows, each focusing on different aspects of the data link. All capture windows run concurrently in real-time. You can have as many capture windows open as your machine's resources will allow.

Follow these steps:

Open the first capture window

which we recommend you use to capture ALL traffic - to have a benchmark trace of the network.
Click on File->New
You will be presented with the Capture Options box.
Optionally enter a Capture Title ie All Traffic
Select Continuous capture (buffer wrap)
Select Discard oldest packets first (use ring bufffer)
Optionally click Save to disk if you want to write packets to disk.

You can always Save ALL packets at a later time (although once the buffer has wrapped, you will only be able to save the packets which are in the buffer)

Set the Buffer size - allow for available RAM on your system

Click OK to start the First Capture window.

Open the next capture window

open this Capture window with a Filter to capture specific data, to focus on that particular traffic.

Click on File->New to open the Capture Options box.
Optionally enter a Capture Title ie POP Traffic
Click on Filters
click to Select POP
This will limit the capture to POP traffic only.
Click OK to start this Capture window.

Open the next capture window

open this Capture window with another Filter to focus on another aspect of the link

Click on File->New to open the Capture Options box.
Optionally enter a Capture Title ie HTPP Traffic
Click on Filters
click to Select HTTP
This will limit the capture to HTPP traffic only.
Click OK to start this Capture window.

Other Filter Options

You can also specify your own filters, to focus the capture to your specific requirements, ie
traffic to, from or to & from
a specific IP or MAC address
a specific Protocol
a specific TCP Port
you can also combine these filters, to achieve complex filtering of Address + Protocol + Port
