  PCMCIA Configuration

For Toshiba and other laptop PCs with extra facilities, i.e. Infra-Red Port, Internal Modem and Sound Audio Drivers, it may be necessary to disable some or all of these devices to enable Monitor to work correctly.
On CardBus machines it is necessary to set the PCMCIA controller to PCIC (PCMCIA) mode.It will not work with AUTODetect or CardBus 16 bit mode.
If your machine is CardBus only, or if you wish to leave your PC in CardBus mode, you can download the utility program PCIC3E0.exe which forces the controller into PCIC mode for Monitor.
Just run pcic3e0.exe before running Monitor.
Do you wish to download pcic3e0.exe?

In DOS mode you must not load Socket Services or Card Services, these are not required by Monitor.

To disable the Infra-Red facility.
Run Windows 95.
Select My Computer and click the Right Mouse button to get the pop-up menu
Select Properties
(alternatively select START, Settings, Control Panel, System)
Select Device Manager
Double Click on Ports (COM & LPT)
You will see the installed devices.
You will need to DISABLE the Infra-Red to stop Windows re-installing it
To DISABLE,
Double Click on the Infra-Red device line.
select General and click the Disable in this hardware profile box.
Click OK
Simply Removing it will only last until you re-start Windows.

Disabling the Internal Modem or other potentially conflicting devices is performed in a similar manner. Disable Sound Audio driver if it causing a conflict

You must basically ensure that there are no devices using the IOBASE (388, 3A8, etc) or the Interrupt Request IRQ (2, 3, 4 or 5)
which Monitor intends to use
IRQ 4 is used by COM1 and should not be disabled, avoid using it for Monitor.

Use SLOT 0 (the lower slot) for the MONITOR PCMCIA adaptor card
You may need to disable the internal Toshiba BATTERY SAVE OPTIONS
Set ‘Display Auto OFF’ to Disabled, as it has been known not to restore the screen if Monitor is running.

Certain models allow you to disable the Infra-red setting, and serial port selection from TSETUP (e.g. T430 models)

The above notes refer to certain models, including the Toshiba T4800 series and the Libretto.

Monitor is known to work on ALL Toshiba models to date.
On DELL machines, use PCMCIA Slot 0, (lower slot) and ensure that the slot is enabled!
Press FKEY1 during boot up to enter the DELL set up configuration.

You can also enable Stretch Mode in DOS to show a full screen, the size of the LCD panel..
This is done either through TSETUP a DOS utility to select parameters, or via Windows.

For DOS mode, press Shift Fkey5 while booting up for a pure DOS prompt.
A Boot Up Menu with DOS and Windows modes is useful.
It may be beneficial to create a DOS boot diskette to bypass the WIN95 boot up.

In summary:

Boot into DOS mode (Shift F5), do not use a DOS window under win95
DO NOT load Socket or Card Services.
Set PCMCIA port to PCIC (or PCMCIA) mode.
Disable: Com2, Infra-Red port and Internal Modem if active. (Use TSETUP to do this)
Disable any other devices which use COM2 or conflicting areas.
Remove any other PCMCIA cards in the machine
Put MONITOR PCMCIA card in slot 0 (usually the bottom slot)
Set up Monitor for PCMCIA – Toshiba Mode, IOBASE 3A8, IRQ 3
Set up Protocol parameters to match the data link
Run TEST.BAT to check if the IRQ is working.

  PCMCIA Compatibility

The logix WAN adaptor card is directly enabled by the MONITOR software. There are no network drivers and you MUST NOT loadCard or Socket Services to run MONITOR with the pcmcia WAN adaptor.
CONFIGURING THE MONITOR SOFTWARE
If you have trouble running MONITOR with the PCMCIA adaptor, you can configure various IOBASE and Interrupt Request Values to avoid conflicts with settings which may be in use in your PC.

From the DOS prompt type:
MONITOR/M ; /M load time switch selects the Monitor START-UP MENU
press C ; select the Adaptor CARD configuration menu
use the cursor keys to select new IOBASE and/or IRQ settings.
You will see the message Adaptor Card not found at this address if the Card cannot be accessed.
You can select PCMCIA Toshiba Mode or DIRECT Access to try to access the card..
If the IOBASE is found, you can check that the IRQ is working by the following:-
CHECKING THE IRQ
load MONITOR/M load monitor with the Start-Up Menu
press P to select a Protocol
press A to select ASYNC protocol
Press ESC to return to Start-Up Menu
Press M to start Monitor
type SU<Enter> on the command line, to select line idle markers
If the selected IRQ is working you should see the Line Idle LADDER ( a series of graphics bars) moving across the display.
If you do not see the ladder, select another IRQ as detailed above.
